The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is pleased to announce that the new Chair of the RACGP Western Australia Faculty Board is Associate Professor Frank R Jones.
Deputy Chair of the Western Australia Faculty Board since 2006, A/Prof Jones has been in full time general practice in the Peel region for 28 years and was a procedural general practice obstetrician for 25 years.
A/Prof Jones is passionate about quality general practice and is a strong advocate for the generalist role. He has an abiding interest in reducing the barriers between primary and secondary care and views himself very much as a front line GP.
A/Prof Jones is senior partner at the Murray Medical Centre in Mandurah, a large multi-disciplinary practice which has had a long association with education including both undergraduate and post graduate general practice training. As a consequence, A/Prof Jones has been a general practice supervisor for over 10 years and is closely involved with the formal teaching programme for registrars in the Peel region and is a general practice supervisor liaison officer with Western Australian General Practitioner Education and Training (WAGPET).
A/Prof Jones was Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) for the Murray District Hospital for a number of years assuming the MAC Chair at Peel Health Campus during the re-development and expansion of the hospital facilities. He has also served as a board member for the GP Down South division of general practice and WAGPET.
In 2009 he was appointed Adjunct Associate Professor of General Practice at Notre Dame Medical School, Fremantle and has an appointment as a visiting medical officer at Peel Health Campus.
"As the new Chair of the RACGP's WA Faculty, I plan to continue raising the profile of the College for members with the aim of being the 'central point of entry' for all things general practice in Western Australia," A/Prof Jones said.
A/Prof Jones succeeds Dr Peter Maguire who has been the Chair since 2006.
