From the 1st September 2007, Pharmacy contractors in England will be
required to submit the original FP10PCD prescription for Schedule 2 and 3 CDs to
the NHSBSA Prescription Pricing Division each month using a special submission
document, FP34PCD. The equivalent original forms originating from Wales or
Scotland should also be submitted.
This follows a change to the relevant medicines legislation (the Medicines for
Human Use (Administration and Sale or Supply) (Miscellaneous Amendments)
Order 2007 and the Medicines (Sale or Supply) (Miscellaneous Provisions
Amendment Regulations 2007). Previously the medicines legislation required the
original private prescription to be retained by the pharmacy so until this was
amended, pharmacy contractors have been submitting photocopies of the
FP10PCD form to the NHSBSA for analysis and monitoring purposes.
Pharmacy contractors in Wales should continue to submit copies of private
prescription form WP10PCD to Health Solutions Wales on a monthly basis at the
same time as submitting other NHS prescription forms until further notice. Copies
of the equivalent forms originating from England or Scotland should also be
submitted.
Commenting Kam Amrith, Information Pharmacist at PSNC said "From the 1st
September, pharmacists will no longer need to photocopy the FP10PCD forms
which will offer pharmacy contractors workload and cost savings. However, PSNC
remains concerned about the current requirement to send these forms to the PPD
separately from NHS prescriptions and using a submission document which can
only be accessed online. We believe that this continues to place an unnecessary
administrative burden on pharmacy contractors and advocate integration of the
submission process for NHS and private Controlled Drug Prescriptions."
