With the number of scientific presentations and attendance promising to break records that have stood for more than two centuries, the American Chemical Society (ACS) invites news media coverage of its 239th National Meeting & Exposition March 21-25 here in the City by the Bay.

News media resources for the meeting - which features almost 12,500 technical presentations -are configured for journalists who join the more than 18,000 scientists and others expected to attend the meeting and those who cover it from their home offices. The technical program already tops the previous record of 9,967 presentations, and attendance would set a record if it exceeds 18,336.

Topics of the technical presentation span the horizons of modern science that involve chemistry, from astronomy to zoology, and include health, medicine, food and nutrition, energy, the environment, other fields where chemistry plays a central role. The meeting theme sessions - Chemistry for a Sustainable World - include almost 1,600 presentations.

Reporters onsite and offsite have access to 30 news releases, embargoed for the time and date of presentation, and 20 press conferences, many of which will be held on an embargoed basis. To access the releases, radio news spots, a schedule of press conferences (with instructions on how to participate online) click here or visit the embargoed site at Eurekalert!

Reporters are invited to a special news media briefing and reception with food and beverages, honoring ACS's James T. Grady-James H. Stack Award winner Ron Seely, a reporter for the Wisconsin State Journal, and a lively demonstration on "The Chemistry of Sourdough & Other Breads" hosted by the ACS Office of Public Affairs. It will be from 6-9 p.m. on Monday, March 23, at Bistro Boudin, the famous sourdough bread bakery, restaurant and museum on Fisherman's Wharf. Internationally known food chemists Sara Risch and Shirley Corriher will discuss and demonstrate the process for making crusty, tasty sourdough bread.

ACS' Press Center will be located in the South Lobby of the Moscone Center. There is no room number, but signs will point the way. The Press Center opens at 6:30 a.m. Saturday March 20 and will be open daily until 5 p.m. through Wednesday March 24. The center includes a news media workroom with wireless Internet, telephones, computers, Skype handsets, photocopy and fax machines, a press conference room, refreshments, and ACS staff to assist in arranging interviews

News media can still apply for complimentary onsite registration now at meeting registration.
